There is a slogan that shows up all over the place at the zipline courses up at Hunter Mountain, in upstate New York. It’s attributed to John Wayne: “Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway.”
So as we were in the bus rocking up the mountain for the first of five lines on the SkyRider zipline tour on a Saturday afternoon in October 2012, there were two thoughts going through my mind. One was “Wow, this is gonna be awesome!” The other was a slight nagging feeling of “Oh (sugar), what have I gotten myself into?”
Long way down…
A few people have asked me how to go ziplining.
It’s not all that difficult, actually. Once you’re in the harness, you just walk (or run) until you can’t walk anymore.
Or to put it another way: sit, and go.
Whooping and yelling as you’re zooming down is optional. But highly recommended.
There are some things in life that you need to try at least once. And ziplining is definitely one of them.
